Trendspek, Infracorr & University of Sydney nominated for Engineers Australia Project of the Year 2025

EA Award

Mon 4 August 2025, Sydney, Australia

We're proud to announce that our collaboration with the University of Sydney and Infracorr has been nominated for Project of the Year at the 2025 Engineering Australia Excellence Awards.

This significant project delivered digital-led condition assessments of 110 buildings across University of Sydney’s Camperdown campus — transforming how a vast, mixed-age portfolio can be inspected, maintained and managed through a future-ready digital engineering approach.

This nomination recognises the future of engineering: data-led, collaborative, and sustainability-focused.

The Technology: Drone surveys and Trendspek’s 3D cloud-based platform modelled each building exterior into a millimetre-accurate photogrammetry model.

The Engineers: Infracorr conducted detailed virtual inspections to annotate defects and repair timeframes, enabling targeted site investigations for areas of concern.

The Asset Owner: The University integrated insights into planning and tenders. Engineers, facilities teams and asset managers adopted the platform to accelerate repair works and inform long-term strategies.

A database of photogrammetry models enabled 13,000 virtual inspections to be completed 80% faster with minimal disruption, establishing a scalable, data-led approach to managing educational infrastructure while promoting adaptive reuse.

A fully integrated workflow of templated risk classification, repair scoping and remediation planning enabled scalable lifecycle management. This ensured operational continuity, protected heritage assets, and directly informed 25-year CAPEX projections.

Statements from the project team

Bill Chant, Senior Engineer, Asset Management & Operations at University of Sydney:

"This digital approach has been used in many ways on a daily basis at the University, and has provided an efficient pathway for the remediation phases to proceed next year. The result has been long-term use of the data for condition ratings, material-based forecasts, and portfolio-wide risk modelling, with vast options for how the data will be used going forward to manage campus assets.”

Derek Feebrey, Chief Executive Officer, Trendspek:

"This nomination reflects what’s possible when technology, engineering, and forward-thinking asset owners come together. The University of Sydney project showcases how taking traditional onsite workflows online can drive smarter, safer and more sustainable decisions across an entire portfolio. We’re proud to be leading the shift toward data-led asset management in Australia."

Diana Soliman, Principal Engineer, Infracorr Consulting:

“As a Senior Engineer at Infracorr, leading such a significant project has been a remarkable achievement in my career. This opportunity allowed me to advocate for gender diversity within the engineering field, both internally and externally, and to share this experience with my younger team members. I am committed to leading by example and consistently promoting gender diversity.”

Ian Godson, Principal Engineer, Infracorr Consulting:

"The scale and complexity of this project demanded a new approach to condition assessment that could deliver accuracy, repeatability and strategic value over time. By leveraging Trendspek’s platform, we’ve equipped the University with data that supports both immediate repairs and long-term capital planning. This is digital engineering in action."
